UNESCO Chair "Knowledge and Wisdom of Peoples"

The University of the Autonomous Regions of the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast, in this walk of 25 years of academic training, has created partnerships with educational organizations that contribute to cultural processes, teaching and dialogues with other peoples, as is the case of the United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) , a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN).

In this sense, in the context of the activities that are being carried out by the celebration of the 25 years of foundation of this alma mater, this Monday, July 22 of the current, URACCAN, in its Las Minas campus, will launch the UNESCO Chair, called "Wisdoms and Knowledge of Peoples", with a Master conference by the doctor in physics , Francisco Tamarit, Rector of the National University of Córdoba, Argentina, (UNC).

In this activity will be representatives of the Network of Indigenous, Intercultural and Community Universities of Abya Yala (RUIICAY), university community of URACCAN, municipal and regional authorities, PhD students in Intercultural Studies and civil society of the Costacan peoples.

Walking through an interculturally focused higher education

It is important to note that in 2018 the Third Regional Conference on Higher Education (CRES) was held in Cordoba, Argentina, where two of the panels that were held were dedicated to the analysis of the treatment of the topic "Higher Education, Cultural Diversity and Interculturality", these panels were composed by Francisco Tamarit, being the general coordinator of CRES 2018; Pedro Henríquez Guajardo, Director of UNESCO IESALC; Yuri Zapata Webb, vice-chancellor general of URACCAN, Pablo Ceto rector of the Maya Ixil University of Guatemala; Maribel Mora Curriao, Director of the Office of Equity and Inclusion at the University of Chile; Anny Ocoró Loango UNTREF-CONICET; Rita Gomes do Nascimento, of the Brazilian Ministry of Education;  Maria Nilza da Silva, from the Universidad de Estadual de Londrina, Brazil and Alvaro Guaymás of the National University of Salta.

In this walk to strengthen higher education with an intercultural focus, URACCAN has achieved great international recognitions that recognize the work of the university and in 2016 UNESCO presented to the rector Alta Hooker Blandford, the meritorial order "Silver Eye", granted by UNESCO's Regional Observatory on Social Responsibility for Latin America and the Caribbean (ORSALS) , through the International Institute for Higher Education of Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), for its outstanding work for the benefit of social, territorial responsibility and interculturality, promoted in Latin America.
