Career profile

The purpose of veterinary medicine is health, welfare, protection, animal production and reproduction, as well as the prevention, control and eradication of diseases, taking into consideration hygiene, food safety, public health and veterinary legislation. Through the veterinary medicine career, the university defines its own strategy of contribution to regional and national development, with the training of integral professionals, who will have an orientation towards animal health, clinical-surgical exercise, hygiene and food safety as well as public health, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, which will allow graduates , graduates, create their own companies or veterinary establishments from a gender intercultural perspective.

It has as its general objective: To train fully professionals that fully meet the needs that today's society and peoples demand in the fields of medicine and animal surgery, production, animal welfare and health, hygiene, food security and public health, promoting entrepreneurship, research and innovation with an intercultural perspective of gender in harmony with Mother Earth.


Functions performed by the Veterinary Physician

The veterinary doctor graduated or graduated from URACCAN has a solid theoretical training and basic practical skills in the various areas of the field of action of the profession: medicine and animal surgery, animal production and health; hygiene, safety and food technology. The development and level of his knowledge, skills and attitudes allow him to face with confidence, quality and leadership the professional exercise based on institutional values, which reflect his ethical, social and environmental commitment.

  • Manages veterinary services (clinical exercise: diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention of animal, individual and collective diseases; animal health programs; public health; quality control, certification and accreditation; surgical medical treatment; food safety; risk management).
  • Plan and develop comprehensive technical accompaniment plans with a gender intercultural perspective.
  • Regulates, controls and records the marketing and use of veterinary drugs. 
  • It supervises and enforces current regulations at the regional, national and international levels in the different veterinary centres and establishments and livestock companies.
  • It manages centres, veterinary establishments and livestock companies.
  • Plans and develops research in veterinary sciences.
